A baseline study exploring the underlying landscape conditions at Socrates Sculpture Park in Astoria, Queens. Many designers, architects, artists and staff members have helped to shape the vision for the Park, embracing the unique waterfront location at the former dumping site, barge canal terminal and creek bed. This study references and re-presents reports, historical documents, artist projects and design proposals since the Park’s founding in 1986. It includes a comprehensive plant and tree inventory cataloging the current ecological community in the Park, as well as an outline of site challenges with maintenance and sculpture installation, and recommendations for site improvements.
